ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

I'm sure you have seen videos of celebrities accepting the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on your feeds these few days. and it's quite funny to see these famous people pouring ice cold water over their head. whoever thought of this campaign is really brilliant, and I guess the campaign is a success, since people are probably googling on what ALS is all about.

To take part in the challenge, participants film themselves pouring a bucket of ice water on their head. Once they've taken the plunge, they call out three friends to take on the challenge, or donate $100 to the ALS Foundation, and upload the video to a social media platform.

from wikipedia:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)—also referred to as motor neurone disease (MND), Charcot disease, and, in the United States, Lou Gehrig's disease—is a neurodegenerative disease with various causes. It is characterised by muscle spasticity, rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle atrophy, difficulty in speaking (dysarthria), swallowing (dysphagia), and breathing (dyspnea). ALS is the most common of the five motor neuron diseases.

sounds very complicated. I think ALSA.org summarizes it best. a dis-ease that "that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord."

In case you haven't seen much of these videos, here's some of my favourite:

Bill Gates

 Mark Zuckerberg

 Oprah

Rob Riggle, Horatio Sanz, Steve Higgins, The Roots, & Jimmy Take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

 Justin Timberlake
